It’s a question many ask each August, and the answer is simple. India gained freedom on 15th August 1947. In 2025, we are celebrating 78 years of independence, which makes it our 79th Independence Day celebration.
Because the first celebration was in 1947 itself, the count of days celebrated is always one number higher than the years completed.
